Bronchoscopy

Bronchoscopy is an endoscopic technique of visualizing the inside of airways for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. A bronchoscopy is a procedure that allows a doctor to examine the inside of the lungs, including the bronchi, which are the main pathways into the lungs. It is a procedure where a thin scope or tube containing a light and camera into the lungs through the nose or mouth. It is done for both diagnoses of the problems and to cure the illness.

Thoracoscopy is a procedure where a scope is passed through the chest wall to look inside the chest for any mass lesions or fluid. It is done for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. It is a medical procedure involving internal examination, biopsy, and/or resection of disease or masses within the pleural cavity and thoracic cavity. Thoracoscopy may be performed either under general anesthesia or under sedation with a local anesthetic.

Aspiration of pleural fluid from pleural space. Done for diagnosis of effusions. Thoracentesis is a procedure in which a needle is inserted into the pleural space between the lungs and the chest wall. This procedure is done to remove excess fluid, known as a pleural effusion, from the pleural space to help you breathe easier.

Intercostal drainage tube insertion is done for selected patients with pneumothorax and pleural effusions. ICD Insertion drains the air or fluid from the space surrounding your lungs called pleural space. The tube may be connected to a machine to help with the drainage. The tube will stay in place until the fluid, blood, or air is drained from your chest.
